About the event
Join NCCAkron’s Executive/Artistic Director Christy Bolingbroke online this spring for Inside The Dancer’s Studio. This series of lunchtime talks with dance makers from across the country explores creativity, the craft of choreography, and navigating an artistic career.
Join us on April 9 for a conversation with Kayla Farrish (New York, NY). Farrish is a choreographer, director, and photographer with a vision for intimate storytelling. Her work delves into sociopolitical structres placed on Black and brown bodies in America, and the expectations of gender, history, and lineage. Her work, which often blends film and live performance, has been commissioned by Gibney Dance (2020-2021), Danspace Project (2019), Pepatian, and the Bronx Academy of Art and Dance, and other venues.
In 2019, she premiered the film The New Frontier (created in White Sands, NM) and live work The New Frontier (My Dear America) pt.1 at Danspace in New York. She is currently developing a new work titled Martyr's Fiction with support from Gibney Dance and the Baryshnikov Arts Center.

In 2021, Kayla is a guest artist with New Dialect (Nashville, TN). New Dialect was founded by choreographer Banning Bouldin in 2012 in response to the need in the Nashville community for a rich and relevant contemporary dance company that would allow dancers, teaching artists, and choreographers the opportunity to explore the wide variety of groundbreaking movement vocabularies that exist in the world of 21st Century dance.
